The
fourth seminar took place as part of the international
conference of the Network of Regional Governments
for Sustainable Development (nrg4SD), held on
22nd - 26th March in Cardiff, Wales. The European
network hosted the workshop on 'Sustainable
Tools & Indicators' and the 'Business and
Sustainable Production & Consumption' session.
Both events gave a number of international experts
a platform for representing their views, experiences
and theoretical knowledge on these topics, followed
by presentations of various case studies on
regional best practice and a discussion forum.

The
third Policy Seminar in Maastricht looked at
a vital component of sustainable development,
integrating policies and how the regions can
learn from experience.
Presentations on integrative policy planning,
conceptual thinking on sustainable development
and governance at the regional level, an example
of strategic planning from Limburg (Hyperlink
to Limburg's Environmental Plan on the Baseline
map page), an example of regional sustainable
growth programmes from Vastra Gotalands, and
working with Local Government by Wales.
Workshop and discussion sessions were held on
integrative policy planning, lessons to be learned
for sustainable development within Europe and
thematic sessions looking at the issues for
rural and urban areas.
The exchange visit on the second day visited
the winners of Limburg's Sustainability Prize
2003, the Gulpener brewery, which is a model
example of sustainability combining responsible
entrepreneurship and corporate social responsibility.
